Handcrafted Period & Bespoke Oak Doors
We are specialists in creating handcrafted bespoke oak doors for period, historic and distinctive properties. We are particularly known for our traditional cross-boarded period doors, sometimes referred to as three-plank doors, which can be found in buildings dating back hundreds of years.
Our knowledge and experience in producing these doors spans nearly 40 years. Each one is individually made using traditional joinery techniques, with careful attention given to the proportions, detailing and character of the property it is being created for.
From period front doors and large solid oak barn doors to contemporary entrances and the restoration of historic doors, our work can be found in properties throughout the UK. Every project is different, and that’s exactly how we believe bespoke joinery should be.
Handmade English Oak Doors, Built to Last
Every Meakins door begins with carefully selected English oak. The timber is air dried slowly over several years before it reaches our workshop, helping to produce strong, stable and durable wood ideally suited to external doors.
From there, traditional joinery skills are combined with almost four decades of experience. Every door is individually made rather than adapted from a standard design, allowing the proportions, construction and detailing to be developed specifically for the property.
Many of our doors are designed to look entirely at home in buildings that have stood for hundreds of years. Behind that traditional appearance, however, we can incorporate modern locks, security and other practical requirements expected from an external door today.

Traditional Craftsmanship for Properties Across the UK
From our workshop in Halifax, West Yorkshire, we create and restore doors for properties throughout the UK. Our work can be found in country homes, barn conversions, listed and historic buildings, churches and contemporary properties where something genuinely individual is required.
With nearly 40 years’ experience, we understand that choosing a bespoke oak door is about much more than measurements. The proportions, timber, construction, ironmongery and finish all need to work with the architecture and character of the building.
That same approach applies to restoration. Where an original door can be saved, our priority is to retain as much of its historic fabric as possible, carefully repairing timber and preserving original features rather than unnecessarily replacing them.
Whether you are looking for a new handmade oak front door, a substantial barn entrance or have an old door in need of restoration, you’re welcome to get in touch and talk to us about your project.
